Elite Position Based Group Training

Our Elite Position Based Group Training is designed for athletes who are serious about developing the specific skills their position demands — not just general basketball ability, but the reads, movements, and decisions that make a guard, forward, or centre elite at their level.

Each session is capped at just 6 athletes per group, grouped by age, skill level, and position, so every drill, rep, and coaching cue is directly relevant to how you actually play the game.

All attendees also receive access to our shooting bays with Dr Dish machines once per week for 30 minutes — additional reps outside of your session to lock in your shot.

What Bayside parents are saying

★★★★★

"My Daughter started attending the skills academy because she wanted to be pushed and make the highest level in rep she can. This year she made VC and loves coming back every term"

— Talar, U16 Girls VC Parent

★★★★★

"My son is new to basketball and has really enjoyed his first term at the Skills Academy. He cant wait to come back for Term 2"

— Kevin, U10 Boys Parent

★★★★★

"Cal and the team create a terrific environment for the kids to learn and improve. These sessions provide the opportunity to focus on skills, with expert guidance, which you often don't get time to work on in team training sessions. My daughter loves her sessions and is starting to incorporate what she has learnt into her games. "

— Ben, U14 Girls Rep Parent

What to expect

Athletes will work through structured, position-based skill development sessions that focus on:

  • Guards — Ball handling, shot creation off the dribble, reading the defence, finishing at the rim and mid-range
  • Wings/Forwards — Off-ball movement, catch and shoot, driving lanes, versatile scoring and defensive footwork
  • Bigs/Centres — Post footwork and finishing, pick and roll reads, rebounding positioning, passing from the high post

All groups work on:

  • Footwork and body control for their specific role
  • Shooting technique and shot selection in position
  • Decision-making and game application
  • Confidence, consistency, and basketball IQ

Training is high-rep, high-feedback, with coaches actively correcting, teaching, and challenging athletes throughout every session.

Why Position Based Training?

Most group sessions run every player through the same drills regardless of where they play. We don't do that.

Position based training means:

  • Every drill is built around the decisions your position makes in real games
  • Coaching feedback is specific to your role, not generic
  • You develop the skills that actually show up in rep trials and club games
  • Athletes progress faster because everything they work on directly transfers

This format is ideal for players preparing for representative basketball, chasing selection, or ready to move from developing to dominating in their position.

Who It's For

  • Junior domestic and representative players (U12–U18)
  • Athletes who want position-specific development, not generic group training
  • Players preparing for rep trials or aiming to move up a division
  • Anyone serious about becoming the best player they can be in their role

Program Focus

✔ Position-specific skill development
✔ Small groups of 4, grouped by age and ability
✔ Maximum reps with constant coach feedback
✔ Skills that directly transfer to game performance
✔ High accountability, competitive environment

Spots are limited to maintain training quality.

Frequently asked questions
Club and school training focuses on the team. We focus entirely on the individual player — their specific weaknesses, their confidence, their game. That's why players who train with us consistently outperform their peers at rep trials. Small groups, expert coaches, and a structured plan that actually progresses week to week.
Most parents notice real changes in ball handling and confidence within 3–4 sessions. Our structured 8-week progression plan means every session builds on the last — so improvement compounds the longer they're with us. It's not random drills, it's a system that works.
Not at all. We welcome players at every level — from complete beginners to those chasing rep selection. We never put a child in a situation where they feel embarrassed or left behind. Small group sizes mean our coaches can always adjust the session to suit who's in the room.
That's exactly why we offer a free trial first — zero risk, zero pressure. Come in, give it a go, and see how your child responds. If it's not the right fit we'll tell you honestly rather than take your money. We're more interested in the right match than a quick sale.
Book a free trial and we'll take care of the rest. Cal will assess your child's current level in person and recommend the best program for their age, ability, and goals. There's no obligation and no pressure — just an honest conversation about what will help your child the most.
