All Cancellations under 48-24 hours will incur a $40 fee to cover coach costs.
All Cancellations of sessions outside of 48 hours will incur no fee as we are able to now find someone to cover the session
Saturday Skills Academy - Session Unavailability / Cancellations
We understand that when registering for a full term of somewhere between 7-10 weeks of sessions there will be the odd session that will be missed due to sickness, injury and or personal events. Basketball Mentors, if given at least a weeks notice are more than happy (up to 2 times) to offer a credit for future Saturday Academy Registrations or Holiday Clinic Registrations. We cannot offer a credit towards private training in this instance.
In regards to sessions that are missed with no notice or less than 24 hours notice we are not able to offer any credit as at this stage we are unable to advertise to fill your place in the academy for the session or adjust our coaching group planned for the session.
Holiday Clinics
We understand that when registering, due to the limited availability and popularity of our holiday clinics that registrations can, in some instances, be paid for months in advance. Due to this, if an injury, or change of plans occurs outside of 2 weeks prior to the clinic start date occurs, we will happily offer a full refund.
Cancellations of registrations outside of 1 week from the start date of the clinic will only be refunded IF Basketball Mentors can replace your child's place in the clinic whether or not the clinic is full at that stage or not. For example, if your child is registration number 20 / 24. Until someone less takes place #20 we are unable to offer a refund. If we are unable to fill your place we will offer you a credit for a future session.
Cancellations within 72 hours of the clinic unfortunately will not incur any refunds or credits as at this time are costs are set and cannot change and we are unable to advertise to fill your child's spot.
Long term thinking
Lily Carmody
Lily Carmody was Cal's first ever Private Training Client. At the age of 10, Lily started training with Cal in the mornings before school. Cal's main goal for Lily was that she still played Rep and still loved the game in U18s. They trained together until Lily moved from McKinnon to Bulleen in U16s. When Lily reached top age U18s she made an NBL1 side. Cal and Lily started working together again. LIly won MVP of the National Junior Classic. She became the top scorer in her NBL1 side at the age of 15! And then she became a development player in the WNBL for the Melbourne Boomers. Lily now plays in the ACC in one of the powerhouse conferences in American college basketball. They still train together...
From U12s to DIV1
Isla Airey
Cal started coaching Isla when he began coaching her in U12s at Mckinnon Cougars. He taught her how to play in the post and gave her footwork and finishing lessons that he himself worked on when he was playing. He tried to teach her to finish with both hands and to create her own shot so she could find success as a tall in a quick girls game. In U16s Isla made the Victorian State Team. Again in U18s. Again in U20s and now Isla is playing Division 1 Basketball for Louisiana Tech. They still train together and this off-season in 2026 they are already planning to come together again to dominate her Junior Year.
Humble begginings
Ryan Lethlean
Cal and Ryan met in 2018. Ryan was tall and loved basketball but had never played competitive games. Cal taught Ryan how to be a post player and how to use his tall and strong frame. Within the year Ryan had made Victorias Ivor Buge team. 8 years later Ryan and Cal still work together twice weekly. Ryan no longer plays as a post, but a dead eye shooter who runs the lanes and dunks (trys to at least..). Ryan has now was 3-straight National titles with Victorias Ivor Burge team as a starter and key contributor to their success. From 2022-2024 Ryan was a member of the Australian Goannas squad.
About Cal and his Journey
When I entered grade 9, I knew I wanted to be good at basketball.
All my mates were good at basketball, and I wanted to be like them.
But I wasn’t fast. I wasn’t athletic. I couldn’t jump and I ran a little
different to everyone else.
My friends all played in 1 st teams and rep ….. I was in the 3 rd team.
We didn’t have the internet back then, so I bought every magazine
and basketball improvement system
I could find. I read everything I
thought could help make be better.
Over time, I started to get better, I
still couldn't run, I still couldn't
jump. But I learnt how to shoot.
Really well. I learnt to play in the
post. Really well.
AND I got fitter. Much fitter.
I still couldn't jump, I still couldn't
run.
Then one day, years later,
I got a US college scholarship...
and 5 games into the college
season,
as a freshman, I made starting 5.
I still couldn't run... I still couldn't
jump or dunk, but I created a
player in myself, that didn't need
those attributes.
My super power, after all these years was... planned improvement.
